Sixis

Ok hear me out. What if Sixis was trans? Like, we know nothing about his life up to arriving at the Docks of Wanara, and it would make total sense. Think about how he reacts to Pall and Wu-Fen, or what he says about the Yulon Tablets?

As far as I’m concerned, Sixis is and has always been trans. Nowhere in canon does it say otherwise; there’s just as much canon confirmation that he’s trans as there is that he’s not (ie none at all). It’s only people’s default assumptions that says he’s not, and why should the default assumption be “not trans”?

For that matter, #Yshak and P’onol are trans too.

Nooo not #Yshak.

I mean, I don’t mean to step on your interpretation or lived experiences, I just prefer #Yshak and #Notaka as a non-trans gay couple. It speaks to my experiences better.

#TheStoryteller is totally right though, there’s no evidence for #Yshak not being trans, and you can’t impose your beliefs on the canon. Ok first of all, I wasn’t, I was merely conjecturing. I literally said “What if?” Second of all, it’s a fictional character. There is no definitive “fact” about their transness because they don’t exist. I’m not saying “Mr. Jones is trans” I’m saying “what if this fictional character were trans and the writers just never made it explicit?”

Stories do not belong to their writers. Writers can try to say what they want to say but once it’s out in the world, the story belongs to its audience. Ever heard of “the death of the author”?

On top of which, there is as much evidence that he’s trans as there is that he’s not — that is to say, none at all. You’re just assuming he’s not because that’s become our culture’s default assumption. Which is terrible. “Straight white non-trans male” is not the default human. Media has just made it out to be that way, where any deviation is considered special or different or a conscious choice. Making someone not trans should be just as conscious a choice as making someone trans, and the evidence in the show itself doesn’t make a conscious choice either way. Which means it’s up to audience interpretation, and as far as I’m concerned, Sixis is trans.
